The Merry Merry Month of March...

Sun Mar 1, 2009, 11:05 PM
...is pretty unmerry. Winter, just leave, ok?

::EDIT::
I've added some photos from the Lipizzaner show. I have a bunch more at the stock account: ~dreamhorseart

Hi again. It's me. Remember me? It's been, what, a month and a half since my last journal post? It's sad really.
As far as art goes, I haven't done anything equine related since the semester started 4 weeks ago. And I'm sure you guys don't want to see gesture drawings and life drawings from my drawing class. If you seem interested, I'll try to get some photos. My professor really seems to like my drawings a lot, so I must be doing something right ;) I find figure drawing really enjoyable. I'm horrible at putting faces on my longer poses though. If I have time to plan out a face, then I'm ok. But I can't just throw one up there. But I really like gesture drawings. It's so free. 1 minute, and it's done. Throw some quick suggestion of muscles in there, and magic! It's a person! And I like our models quite a bit. One is older and has more muscle definition, and the other is younger and more "boyish" so there's a little bit of everything. No women yet though.
Anyway. Enough raving about my drawing class. I also am taking ceramics from the same professor. It's fun too. No finished pieces yet, but I'll photograph them when I finally have glazed pieces.
I joined WetCanvas! about a month ago. I was really into reading everything and participating in the breed a week challenge at the beginning, but I kind of got overtaken by school. It leaves no time for fun drawings. Sad, really.
Um, horse news. Finished out the IHSA season on the 14th. Horrible show really. I placed last. The horse I drew was...strong. I controlled him, but couldn't slow him down. So that was special. Then in the last class of the day, they put a walk-trotter on him, and he totally took off with her, and she fell off really hard. Not surprising really. Bad decision from those in charge.
I went to see the Lipizzaner show a few weeks ago too. It was pretty cool. I have some photos if you're interested. I can also post them to my stock account for your artistic endeavors, if you wish :)
Well, I hope you are all doing well. I answered all my comments, but haven't thanked anyone for favorites in a while. So, thank you all! I really do appreciate every one of them, but in the interest of time, I think I am going to do this joint thanks instead.

Also, is the new deviantArt wonderful enough for a subscription to be worth it? I am debating buying a subscription for myself.

Well, Look Who's On Top Of Things

Thu Jan 15, 2009, 6:15 AM
So, I might be trying to get back into this whole dA thing. I haven't really been doing all that much, and I kind of want to get back into it. Sad that I don't have a subscription anymore. Ah well. Eating, tuition, and friends' weddings are probably more worthy of me putting my $30 toward. ;)
Ooo, I did buy some prints though. I had to!! My very very good friend, ~RurokenChimera is trying to save money to go to Japan next year. And I definitely want to help her out. Maybe you'd like to too?
Tomorrow, I start giving some private art lessons to a couple kids. They are home schooled, and don't have regular art classes. So, until I go back to the states on the 29th, I'm going to be doing a little teaching. A 2nd grader and a 13-year-old. Should be fun :)
I just looked at my weather forecasty thingy. It's 2 degrees F. in Michigan right now. I am so glad I am here, where the high is 51F tomorrow. And this is "cold." I am going to die back in the land of ice and snow.
The scanner I planned on using is not working, so I have no idea when I can get scans of my new drawings. I am almost done with the mare and foal drawing I posted WIPs of. Just need a background now...(the bane of my existence).
Anywho, I'll stop boring the 3 people who actually read this journal ;)

2009 Updates

Mon Jan 12, 2009, 12:34 AM
Wow, so I haven't uploaded any art worth mentioning in like 2 months. Yikes. I've felt really bad in the ways of art lately. Like...I can't draw! It's been bad. I try to draw and it turns out horrible. So I trash it.
Good news is, I have a few drawings that actually turned out. A corgi, 4 horses, and I started a drawing of JD from Scrubs that I hope turns out. I've got the lineart done. Now onto the shading. Hopefully I get some scanned tomorrow.

Well, I am in Japan for all of January. At my school we have a January interim where you take just one class, and you have to do 3 in the 4 years you attend. So, I took this year off and am staying home. It's kind of nice. Except that I am having to have all my wisdom teeth taken out. I had the two on my right side taken out last Thursday, and the left side will be done a week from tomorrow. I've been in a lot of pain, and taking lots of painkillers. Yay. And my bottom tooth was too close to a nerve, and when the dentist took it out, it bruised it or something. So half my bottom lip and part of my chin is paralyzed. It's like permanent Novocaine. Weird. It is hopefully going away soon (couple days to a couple weeks). So yeah. It's tons of fun.

I've sold most of the coloring books I printed. I think I have about 5 left of the 50 I printed. So that's sweet. I just need to get back to Michigan where I can figure out checks and printing more and everything.

Well, happy year of the cow everyone!

Coloring Book

Fri Dec 12, 2008, 8:32 PM
omg gaiz.
I just spent a ton of money on unnecessaries.
Well, it's my coloring books. I got them printed today. And they cost a lot. $450 a lot. It cost me almost 10 dollars a book just to make them. Well, I will be going somewhere other than Staples next time, I guess. I just really hope that they sell. They look super nice. I really love them. They just cost a lot, and I hope people are willing to pay more than I would be. *sigh* I'm just feeling uneasy about it all. It's all good though. I'll make the money back, and will be able to pay all my tuition next semester. You should check out some pictures of the finished book (and buy one???) [link]
Maybe I'll put up a page or two on here later. I will also have some paintings up later.
Happy early Christmas everyone! I get to go home to Japan in a week!! Just have to get through exams...yay.

Whoa, an update!

Wed Nov 19, 2008, 10:24 AM
So, it's been almost a month again...I guess it's time to update. Also, I am locked out of my apartment for the moment, so I am trying to kill time until my next class.

I will talk about my coloring book first. I'm super excited about it. It's all Haflingers, and I'm actually going to finish it! (I sometimes don't finish projects...) I have all the drawings done, scanned, cleaned up, and titled. I just need to make the front and back covers, and a "thank you" page, and then have it all printed out. At Staples I think. I really hope I have it all done in the next two weeks, because Christmas is coming up! So I'm hoping I get all that smoothed out. Should be fun. You can check out my blog for a preview: [link]

Next item on the agenda...I have a couple more paintings to post on here. I'll get those up this week also. I just don't feel like posting them all on the same day =) To come: a self portrait, and a "collage" painting with a sweet carousel horse.

Finally, =Ahuvah posted her Christmas lists, and I think I might do the same. I'm not expecting to actually get anything, but hey, it's fun to wish!

1. A horse. I just can't leave it out. I've been wishing for one for forever.
2. Art-prints, gift art, anything pretty. I like decorating my walls!
3. A subscription. Look how sad my journal is =( haha...just kidding. The "new" dA where even non-subscribers can see everyone's deviations as thumbnails is super awesome, so there's not much need for a sub, other than a super cool look to the page. And a star by my name =)
4. Hunt coat and riding helmet. I am slowly acquiring hunt seat show clothes.
5. Any art supplies. I love art supplies. All kinds. Paper, pencils, pastels, paints, ribbons, etc. =)
6. Finally, a camel, so that I can do this: [link]

And that is the end of my update for now...I'm off to painting class (working on a series painting. It's of things you would make a wish one...dandelion, wishbone, etc...it's gonna be pretty sweet. I hope).
